Sue Matiko, Administrator. I have been employed by the church for 3 years. My husband and 2 daughters have been attending here for 26 years. After 36 years with the Federal Government at Service Canada, I retired, and God opened up an opportunity to continue working and serving God’s people at EAC. My lifelong experience with assisting clients with their financial needs and assessing their needs beyond what was available prepared me for my role in my church position.
Upon retiring from my career, I was not ready to stop working and still had 2 adult children in post-secondary education at home. I loved the career I had and felt success every day bringing people to elements of resolve for their life situation. Working at the church seemed like a natural fit. My duties as one of the administrators are the responsibility of receiving visitors by phone or in person when they need something from the church. The congregation is a new client of mine now. God has prepared me for this. My comfort level is helping people. I continue to bring God to work with me every day.
It is very difficult to separate work from ministry when you work at the church. This has its advantages. Over the years I have been involved in various ministry roles from teaching children’s Sunday School when my girls were young, to teaching our ESL adult students, actively leading fellowship meals for the church family, being active on the Women’s Ministry Committee and my favourite ministry with Hospitality – greeting and the Welcome Centre.
